Recent Point Reduction of an Acacia Tree – The Wishing Well, Uxbridge UB4 8JF
Project Overview
Access Tree Specialists recently completed a point reduction of a mature acacia tree at The Wishing Well public house in Uxbridge. The tree is located within a busy target area, close to buildings and public footfall, which meant the work needed to be carefully planned and precisely executed.
Our brief was to reduce the height and spread of the tree while preserving its natural shape and overall health.
The Work Carried Out
The acacia had become overly extended, with long limbs creating increased risk in a high-use area. Using rope access and controlled cutting techniques, our team carried out a selective point reduction to reduce leverage on the upper crown.
Key elements of the job included:
- Targeted reduction of extended branch tips
- Maintaining the natural form of the acacia
- Improving clearance and safety in a public setting
- Minimising stress to the tree
- Working safely around buildings and pedestrians
All cuts were made in line with best arboricultural practice to support healthy regrowth and long-term structure.
Why Point Reduction Was the Right Choice
Point reduction is ideal when a tree needs size management without heavy pruning. In this case, it allowed us to:
- Reduce wind loading
- Improve overall balance
- Lower the risk of branch failure
- Retain the tree’s character
For trees in pubs, schools, car parks, and public spaces, this approach often provides the best balance between safety and appearance.
The Result
The acacia now sits more comfortably within its surroundings, with reduced height and improved structure, while still retaining its distinctive form. Most importantly, the area beneath the tree is safer for staff, customers, and visitors to The Wishing Well.
