Ivy Cut Back & Vegetation Reduction

Project Overview

On 19th February 2026, Access Tree Specialists carried out vegetation management works at Drayton Green Station bridge. The project involved cutting back heavy ivy growth overhanging the public footpath and reducing multiple ivy-covered tree and shrub species that posed a risk to pedestrians.

Due to the location beside a busy road and pedestrian access route to the station, traffic management and public safety were key priorities throughout the works.

If overgrown ivy or vegetation is creating a hazard near your property, business, or public access route, act before it becomes a bigger issue contact us today to arrange a quotation.

The Issue

The site had become heavily overgrown with ivy and mixed vegetation. The main concerns included:

  • Ivy encroaching onto the public footpath
  • Reduced pedestrian clearance
  • Obstructed sight lines near the bridge approach
  • Ivy-covered trees and shrubs with concealed structural defects
  • Increased risk of falling debris onto pedestrians

Over time, unmanaged ivy can add significant weight to host trees and conceal defects, making them difficult to assess properly. In high footfall areas such as station access routes, this presents a clear safety concern.

Scope of Works

Our team carried out:

  • Full cut back of ivy overhanging the footpath
  • Reduction of multiple ivy-covered species
  • Removal of excessive vegetation growth along the boundary
  • Clearance of pedestrian access routes
  • On-site chipping and removal of green waste
  • Implementation of traffic and pedestrian management

All works were completed in a controlled manner to minimise disruption to road users and commuters.

Traffic & Pedestrian Management

Given the proximity to Drayton Green Station bridge and the public highway, we installed appropriate traffic management measures, including:

  • Coned work zones
  • Clear directional signage
  • Safe working perimeter
  • Coordination with passing traffic

Our team ensured safe pedestrian passage at all times while carrying out the vegetation reduction.

The Result

  • Footpath fully cleared and compliant for pedestrian access
  • Overhanging ivy removed
  • Improved visibility along the approach to the bridge
  • Reduced risk of falling debris
  • Site left clean and safe

The area is now safer for daily commuters and local residents using the route.
